Make a beautiful decorative mobile to hang in your home with this simple paper kit featuring birds of the British Isles. It’s a great way to spark a lifetime of love for garden birds in young children – with no garden necessary! Complete with easy to follow instructions, this simplified kit just needs some scissors, strong craft glue, a craft knife and a needle and thread – and an adult to help, of course.
The kit contains a blue tit, a bullfinch, a siskin, a goldfinch and a thrush, all beautifully illustrated in Alice Melvin’s signature style.
This paper mobile kit is part of a collection of children’s clothing, accessories and craft activities featuring animals of the British Isles, designed by Alice Melvin exclusively for Tate. These designs have been created to highlight the importance of teaching children about nature – because, as Alice says, ‘There is so much native wildlife for us to appreciate both out in the wild and in our urban environments. It’s only by learning and caring about our wildlife that we will fight to help protect its fragile presence.’
Alice Melvin is an illustrator and designer who lives in Edinburgh. Along with her love of drawing, Alice delights in the making process and has designed many interactive ‘cut out and make’ children’s products. She’s also written and illustrated several children’s books, published by Tate.
Recommended for ages 6 and up. Please supervise children when using scissors and craft equipment.
Dimensions: packaging is 21 x 27 cm, birds are approximately 5 x 15 cm when assembled.
