Printmaking has, since childhood, been a major part of Robert Gillmor's artistic output. At school he was introduced to linocutting and it became his preferred printing medium. In Cutting Away, after describing his working methods, Robert writes of the inspiration behind the 90 prints illustrated. These often evoke memories which allow him to wander into autobiographical anecdotes, thoughts about the artistic process and any other ideas that a particular print provokes. In the final section of the book, Robert demonstrates the use of linocuts for posters and book jackets, especially those he designed for the prestigious "New Naturalists" series.
